Enugu Approves Equipment Purchase For Orthopaedic Hospital

The Enugu State government has approved the immediate purchase of essential medical and electrical equipment for use by the Burns Care Unit of the National Orthopedic Hospital Enugu.

State Commissioner for Information Mr. Chuks Ugwoke disclosed this during a press briefing at the end of the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Sullivan Chime at the Government House, Enugu.

He said the purchase of the equipment worth over N29.8m was in response to an urgent request by the management staff of the unit to state government to help save more lives at the hospital.

The Commissioner enumerated the medical and electrical items to be procured as electric cardioserv debrifillator, blood gaz analyzer, standard ventillator and 100 KVA generator among others.

Also in the health sector, Mr. Ugwoke said that the council had approved the review of fees for registration and annual renewal payable by private health facilities in Enugu State in line with the classes of services offered and according to hospital beds.

Commissioner Ugwoke noted that the review was intended to discourage establishments of Sub-standard hospitals and encourage group practice, adding that the State Ministry of Health would give details of the review.

The Executive Council also approved over N91m for the renovation of the state Staff Development Centre and the Ministry of Transport service base workshop.

According to him, the sum of over N59m was also  approved for the renovation of mechanical and electrical workshops at the Base Workshop of the state  Ministry of Transport.

The Commissioner noted that the renovation of the base workshop would enhance repairs of Coal City Shuttle buses and reduce money spent by the state government in the maintenance of the state Coal City Shuttle   buses.

The State Information boss said that the sum of N32.6m  had been approved for the renovation of the State Staff Development Centre.
