AKULGA 2012 Budget Will Address Social Services – Chairman

The chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, Mr Theodore Georgewill has presented the 2012 appropriation bill of N3,385,591,264.80k to the Legislative Assembly. The appropriation bill, he said, will address social services.

Mr Georgewill stated that N1,835,584,921.6k which represents 54.22 per cent is for capital expenditures while the remaining N1,549,916,343.12 representing 45.78 per cent is for recurrent expenditures.

According to the council boss, the 2012 appropriation estimates which is 33.46 per cent higher than the 2011 budget would address the issues of uncompleted projects, the payment of N18,000 minimum wage to workers and other projects that will benefit the people, such as land expansion through sand filling, construction of modern markets, chairman’s lodge, guest houses, and marine police station, etc.

He announced that the key policy areas of his administration are education, sports, healthcare, commerce, youth empowerment, agriculture, power generation, security and Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

A further breakdown of the 2012 estimates shows that the economic sector rill gulp N547,473,861.35 or 29.28 per cent social services, N226,900,000 or 12.36 per cent for administration N157,000,000 or 8.55 per cent and capital loans N150,118,000 or 8.18 per cent.

The leader of the Akuku-Toru legislative Assembly, Mr Akuma Dokubo, hailed the council boss for the presentation of the 2012 appropriation bill and assured him of the co-operation of the legislative assembly the passage of the bill, after a detailed study of the bill.

According to the leader, the budget when passed into law ill enable the chairman to embark on projects beneficial to the people, and fulfill his election promises, appealing to the council boss to ensure that the budget is fully implemented.
