The Taraba Government has approved N115 million for the development of the state Tourism Development Master Plan, the Chairman of the Tourism Development Board, Prof. Saad Abubakar, said.

Abubakar said at a news conference in Jalingo on Tuesday that the fund would assist the board in showcasing the state’s enormous tourism potential.

He said that the master plan would package the structure and process of tourism development in the state.

“The master plan will contain various tribes, artifacts, cultural festivals, beautiful sceneries and other things we can offer in terms of tourism in Taraba.”

Asked why the Nwonyo Fishing Festival in the state did not have the popularity of the Argungu Fishing Festival in Kebbi, Abubakar said “the two festivals did not start at the same time.

“The Nwonyo started in 2008 but Argungu existed for many decades. With patience and strong financial backing, Nwonyo will attain Argungu’s status.”

The chairman added that the board was wooing private sponsorship for the Nwonyo festival unlike in the past where it relied solely on state funding.
