Lawyers Decry Lack of FG Projects In ONELGA
The absence of projects and infrastructure built with public funds by the Federal Government in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, has attracted the attention of Ogba Lawyers Forum (OLF).
Making the position of the body known in an interview, the President of Ogba Lawyers Forum, Mr Richard Aduche Wokocha said in spite of the huge contributions made by the local government to national development, the area was still grossly neglected by the Federal Government in terms of provision of basic infrastructure.
According to him, the local government was blessed with abundance of oil and gas deposits and other natural resources.
He, therefore, advised the federal government to reverse the trend of neglect by giving the people of the area a sense of belonging.
“The importance of siting projects of immense value in the area that would assist in ameliorating the condition of the people cannot be over-emphasised if we must call a spade by its name,” he said.
The former Head of Department of Business Law in the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt also noted with concern that the people were striving to feel the positive impact of Rivers State Government in the local government, stressing that the area had not fared well in the provision of basic infrastructure by both governments.
He, therefore, appealed to both the Federal and state governments to assist the people by providing people-oriented projects in the area.
Wokocha who expressed disappointment over the level of development in the local government, said the time had come to address the developmental challenges facing the people.
He also regretted that social vices were on the increase in the area, and called on the people to take their security in their own hands by fishing out bad elements in their midst. While also urging them to work with the police to check crimes in the area, the legal luminary thanked God for helping the body to overcome the challenges of 2011 which he said informed the decision by the body to organise a special thanksgiving service in Omoku, recently.
