Church Commissions 18-Seater Bus
As part of activities marking this year’s Mothering Sunday, the Mother’s Union and Women’s Guild of St Bartholomew Anglican Church, Fimie, Somiari, Tere-Ama parish in the Diocese of Okrika, in Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State have commissioned an 18-seater bus.
The bus which would ease movement during evangelism and other expenses being incurred as transport during official church activities, was commissioned last Sunday by the vicar of the church, Rev Israel Lawrence.
Rev Lawrence while performing the ceremony commended the foresight and generosity of the Mothers Union and the Women’s Guild on their gesture, which he said was worthy of emulation.
He said “it is to the glory and service of God”.
Earlier in her speech, the president of the Mothers Union/women’s Guild of the church, Mrs. Tamunoemi Lawrence called on the Christian faithful to be exemplary and be worthy of emulation at all times.
Mrs. Lawrence said as Christian mothers, much was expected of them by their family members, the church, close associates and the society at large, adding that as the theme of the day implies, women should truly be good shepherds in all facets of their life.
She enjoined all to be committed and prayerful, stressing that they should be more proactive in the things of God.
In her sermon on the theme, “Women Ge Good Shepherds”, Mrs. Mina Wakama admonished women in the Christian faith to emulate the virtuous woman who cares for every one that comes in contact with her, and urged them not to discriminate or segregate against any one.
She enjoined them to abstain from unworthy activities, stressing that God wants all Christians to be good shepherds.
Highlights of the day were the presentation of gifts.
