No fewer than 150 Corporate bodies/Business Organisations, as well as government agencies have already indicated interest to participate actively in the forthcoming 23rd Enugu International Trade Fair scheduled to commence at the permanent site of the Trade Fair Complex off Enugu-Onitsha Expressway on Friday March 23, 2012 and end on Monday April 2, this year.

Disclosing this yesterday while addressing journalists on the preparations so far made to make this year’s fair a huge success, the president, Enugu Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ECCIMA), Dr. Theo Okonkwo, expressed delight that already meaningful progress had been made by the chamber towards the successful hosting of the event.

According to him, “We are assuring that there will be 24 hours uninterrupted supply of electricity and water. Aware of the deficiencies associated with public power supply from PHCN, we have primed up the two standby 500KVA generators in the event of public power supply failure”.

Continuing, the ECCIMA president went on, “We are going to maximise the available space spanning over 6 hectares of flat land which creates ample space for exhibitor’s stands, parking space for vehicles and accommodating atmosphere to enable thousands of visitors move around comfortably at the same time”.

This year, he said, “We shall also be adding the agricultural sector as a major fulcrum in our specially designated area during the fair, in order to boost agricultural production and commercial farming in particular”, pointing out that the council had commenced temporarily the construction of the ceremonial pavilion at the permanent site as directed by the Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment.

He further assured that “We shall be consolidating efforts towards enhancing the specially designated area in the fair complex for the exhibition of new products, prototypes, innovations and research findings for commercialisation. This is to boost technological advancement by bringing researchers, business people and industrialists together”.

Dr Okonkwo, however, used the forum to appeal to the relevant authorities of the Enugu state government to resurface the Golf Course/GRA access road leading to the permanent Trade Fair Complex for easy access by participants and visitors.

On security, Dr Okonkwo, equally expressed delight that Enugu remains one of the most peaceful states in the country, praying that it should be sustained.

His words: “We have done very well in the past, especially since we started hosting our fair at the permanent site two years ago. We give God the glory and we will consolidating efforts in this direction especially with the emerging security dimension in the country”, he promised.
