Nigeria premier league board NPL chairman, Victor Baribote, has been removed as chairman of Division One club, Bayelsa United and replaced with his former vice chairman, John James.
The appointment was announced early in the week and takes immediate effect, according to Simeon Gbakumo, Information Officer at the State Ministry of Sports Development.
“The new appointment is a result of the elevation of Victor Rumson Baribote to the new position of Chairman of the NPL,” Gbakumo said in a press statement.
Sports Commissioner Opukiri Jones Ere took the opportunity to congratulate Baribote on his new appointment as NPL chairman.
Baribote was appointed Bayelsa United chairman in 2007, and in his first season in charge of the club finished third on the league log, qualifying to represent Nigeria in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Two years later, they were crowned league champions for the 2009 season and represented the country in the CAF Champions League.
