The Nigeria Association of Women Journalist’s (NAWOJ), Edo chapter, has presented Christmas gifts to orphanages, hospitals and prisons in Benin.

Among the hospitals visited were the Central Hospital and the Stella Obasanjo Hospital, as well as the Uyiosa and the Amadi orphanages.

The gift items include bags of rice, cartons of soap, tooth paste and tissue papers among others.

Presenting the items at the Amadi Orphanage, the state’s NAWOJ Chairperson, Mrs Amina Ebor, said that the association wanted to share what it had with the children.

Ebor said that NAWOJ would continue to partner with the orphanage to make the place comfortable for the children.

Responding, Mrs Lucy Bello, the proprietress of Amadi Orphanage thanked the association for the gesture.

She said, “I want to thank the female journalists for recognising the orphans in the society. They have been doing a lot for the orphans.

“The few children you are seeing here are privileged because they are in the city, as others in the rural areas may not be lucky enough.”

At the Uyiosa Orphanage, a woman known as ‘mummy’ received the gift items on behalf of the proprietress, Mrs Mary Okubor, who was not available when NAWOJ visited.

She thanked the association for the gesture.
