Ex-National Hurdler Arraigned In Court For Murder
A former Nigerian 400 metres hurdler, Ambrose Monye, was arraigned before a Pretoria Central Magistrates’ Court for the alleged murder of 26-year-old Chanelle Henning
Monye, 37, was charged with providing the gun allegedly used by Gerhardus du-Pllessis, an ex-police constable, to kill Henning last Tuesday, after she dropped her four-year old son in school.
Police Investigation Officer, Capt. Peet Van-Spuy, said that one Andre Gouws, who is now in police custody, commissioned Monye to arrange for the killing of Henning.
“A man has been arrested in Nelspruit; he is a close friend of Nico Henning, the victim’s ex-husband.
“He (Nico Henning) is not a suspect at this stage, but there were enough evidence to link his friend with the murder.
“He appeared in court on the charge alongside a motorcyclist who conveyed Du-Plessis to carry out the murder,’’ she said.
Nico and Channelle were in bitter legal battle on the custody of their only son.
Van-Spuy said Du- Plessis gave himself up last Monday and confessed to using a revolver to murder Chanelle.
“His confession led to the arrest of Monye, who he said commissioned him for the killing and Pershan Singh who took him to the scene of the crime on Wednesday,’’ she said.
The Southern Africa correspondent of Tidesports reports that, Monye was last week acquitted on a separate murder charge in a Johannesburg court.
All the five suspects were remanded in Pretoria prison and will be charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
They are expected to re-appear in court on November 23.
