Stanley Eguma, has admitted the immense pressure the national Under-23 team are under to qualify for next year’s Olympic Games following the failures of other national teams.

The Super Eagles failed to make it to next year’s African Nations Cup, and the Super Falcons missed out on the All Africa Games and Olympic Games respectively.

Austin Eguavoen’s team are Nigeria’s last remaining hope of reaching a major tournament and Eguma, the team’s assistant coach is feeling the heat.

“It is quite unfortunate what has happened to Nigerian football this year because it has been bad for us as far as football is concerned,” Eguma told Tidesports source.

“We see ourselves as the only ones that can bring smiles to the faces of Nigerians and we are working hard to make sure what happened to other teams do not befall us and as we work had we believe the NFF will cooperate with us to ensure our success,” Eguma said.

He says he see pressure on the Olympic team because they have nothing else to do but qualify as nothing short of that will make Nigerians happy.

“It’s a tough race ahead but I am optimistic we will make it.”

The Olympic Eagles are presently in Ghana for the final phase of camping ahead of the CAF U-23 champions which kicks off in about a forth night in Morocco.
