GM Preaches Fitness, Exercises For Workers
The General Manager, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Eastern Ports, Mr Sotonye Etomi has enjoined staff of the Authority to take exercise as part of their life inorder to keep them mentally alert and physically fit to carry out their duties effectively.
Mr Etomi, who gave the charge while addressing participants after the maiden jogging and walking exercise at NPA, Basket House premises, Port Harcourt over the weekend stated that one of the best ways to remain healthy, is through exercise, as not all persons could carry out regular medical check-ups.
He said there would be improved and better workforce when they are healthy, stressing that they should imbibe the habit and extend it to their families, so as to stay free from certain illness. Speaking earlier, the Assistant General Manager, Personnel, Eastern Ports, Mr Joseph Anyanwu lauded the General Manager for the initiative, saying a healthy body is a sound mind, and charged all to exercise for better productivity.
The General Manager thanked all those that took part in the exercise and that since it is going to be an annual affair, those who failed to participate would have themselves to blame.
In her remarks, the Manager Health Operations, Mrs Grace Gogo Abbey also enjoined the staff to always exercise and remain healthy. In his contribution, the Assistant Head of Medical Department, Dr Orelu said exercise burns fats in the body and encouraged all to take the monthly exercise serious. The exercise which took the staff from NPA Basket House premises to Government House Drive Azikiwe Road was led by the General Manager, NPA, Eastern Ports, Port Harcourt, Mr Sotonye Etomi.
