Reckless Driving: Commissioner Indicts Govt, Security Personnel

The Rivers State Commissioner for Transport, Mr. George Tolofari, has indicted top government officials and uniformed personnel for reckless driving and abuse of road traffic rules and regulations.

Mr. Tolofari, who gave this assertion recently at the Niger Delta Road Safety Risk Management Workshop, organised by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) in Port Harcourt said it was to check these challenges that the state government set up the Rivers State Traffic Management Authority (TIMARIV), in order to ensure safety of motorists and other road users.

He said some motorists are indiscipline and tasked all to respect all road traffic laws and regulations through exemplary conduct.

The Commissioner warned them that irrespective of class, the government would not spare anyone caught violating traffic signs or abusing existing laws and regulations, and enjoined all to assist the government ensure discipline on the road, and also lauded Shell for the workshop.

Also speaking, the Comptroller General, Rivers State Traffic Management Authority, Mr. Nelson Jaja, who read the riot act to all road traffic violators in the state said that no body is above the law, especially the uniformed men as well as government drivers, pointing out that TIMARIV was poised to restore discipline on the roads at Port Harcourt.

Mr. Jaja charged other corporate bodies to emulate Shell and pleaded that all should assist TIMARIV to meet its target by keeping to its “adopt a goal” initiative to help make the roads safer for all.
