Rivers State is set to host the maiden edition of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) sponsored Under 13-14 swimming competition for all secondary schools in the Niger Delta states.

The tournament is scheduled to hold from October 12 through 16, at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Sports Complex.

This was disclosed by the Secretary of Rivers State Swimming Association, Christopher Chioma, in an interview with Tidesports yesterday

According to him, the competition would be organized by the Nigeria Swimming Federation (NSF) and   used to scout for talents and improve on the organisation capabilities of the federation.

“I am told that the state will only host the tournament, while the Nigeria Swimming Federation will be in charge of its organization in order to give it the best standard possible and adequate documentation of records”, Chioma said.

The association scribe expressed confidence that Rivers State would win the competition. He further stated that the association has held several intensive trainings for its athletes to ensure that the state achieves success during the tournament.

“We are training our athletes (swimmers) in preparation for the tournament to ensure that they are physically and technically fit. We want to continue to build on the success recorded during the recently concluded 17th National Sports Festival, NSF, hosted by the state”, Chioma said.
