Rotary Partners RSG On Mental Health Care

The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt GRA has pledged to partner with the Rivers Ministry of Health to improve the state of mental health in the state.

The President of the Club, Rotarian Sam Mba, who said this during his induction ceremony at the weekend in Port Harcourt said that the collaboration will cover areas of training for mental health staff in the state.

The rest are embarking on advocacy programme to rename the stigmatisation of these suffering from mental illness, psychological support to people looking after mentally incapacitated persons, donation of various items to the psychiatric hospital, amongst others.

The new Rotary President also listed other programmes to be carried out by the club in the new Rotary year to include, provision of mosquito nets, free vision checks, free eye glasses, breast and cancer awareness campaign, provision of boreholes, trash bin, donation of books and scholarship as well as career counselling in schools, development of a micro-credit scheme, while Demavillac Home, Diobu library will be equipped.

In his speech, the out gone president of the club, Professor Winston Bellgam, said that the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt, GRA, which is one year old has made tremendous improvement since inceptions.

“My next function is to say thank you with the largest voice can muster and to assure you that the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt GRA is here to stay”, he said.

He stressed the need for the new president and his team to improve upon the achievements already recorded in the club.

“Rotary has built communities and bridged continents, is embracing humanity in a game changing way and will serve you under future themes and emphasis”, he said.
