A senior lecturer at the River State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Dr. Omodele Momodu says the State would gain a lot from the booming micro businesses and sporting activities at the on-going 17th National Sports Festival.

Dr. Momodu who is a lecturer in the Banking and Finance Department of the State-owned university said prior to the presence of the contingents, the State has started reaping gains following the construction works at the different venues.

“Only for hosting the game, a lot of businesses were created,” he declared, “contracts and construction works were awarded and that to me is the bulk of the investment.”

He pointed out aside the business aspect, the state would also enjoy better external relations because most of the contingents would come from outside the state and country.

In the words of Dr. Momodu “the import content is also very valuable because a lot of foreign expertise would have been engaged.”

The university believes that sports promotes avenue, for economic diversification as most moribund businesses would be revived to fill some specific gaps in such events.

Aside that he explained that the youths would also be gainfully employed, stating that level of energy exertion and creativity in sports events go a long way in driving competitive spirit amongst young people.

Dr. Momodu therefore advised the state government to tap from the event even though it is shortlived,” one bane of sports is the lack of local content but once that is curtained, it is a sure way to diversify our economy,” he added.
