The National Chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh, says Prof. Attahiru Jega has restored his confidence in the independent National Electoral Commission.

Umeh who stated this shortly after INEC had declared Owelle Rochas Okorocha as the Governor Elect of Imo State on Saturday after the supplementary election on Friday 6th May, said the party had in two previous attempts denied chance to take over the mantle of leadership in that state, by the INEC.

He expressed happiness that the people’s vote counted and that the mandate given to the APGA was not stolen.

According to him, “we give God all the glory. Our party had two previous attempts, the people voted for us but we were denied.”

“But this time around, God willed it that our mandate cannot be stolen from us” he said.

The APGA boss noted that INEC boss, Prof. Jega has restored his confidence in the integrity of the electoral body.

It would be recalled that the Governorship candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) Owelle Rochas Okorocha was declared winner of the 2011 governorship election in Imo State.

INEC’S returning officer in Imo State, Prof. Itillary Odoagah, Vice Chancellor of Micheal Opara University of Agriculture, Umudike made the declaration.

Okorocha polled 336,859 votes while incumbent Governor Ikedi Ohakuim of the PDP scored 290,496 votes and Ifeanyi Aravume of the Action Congress of Nigeria (CAN) had 107,068 votes to place third.

The supplementary elections were held in three local governments and one ward in Imo State.

The election in Oguta local government could not hold due to no availability of electoral materials.
