600 Benefit From NGO’s Empowerment Programmes
About 600 youths and women from rural communities across Ahoada East and Ahoada West Local Government Areas of Rivers State have benefited from the empowerment programmes of the Almighty Organisation Plus, a non-governmental organisation in the state.
The Executive Director of the organisation, Evangelist Chukuma N. Abraham said this in an interview with The Tide at Ula-Ehuda in Ahoada East LGA. Abraham said that the organisation has embarked on skills acquisition such as soap and cream production, conversion of cassava to flour as well as training on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) among communities in the two local government areas
Apart from that skills training programme, the Executive Director said the organisation has also embarked on peace campaign across communities in the areas and Elechi Beach in the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area.
According to him, the programmes which are being sponsored by members were meant to reposition the youths to meet the challenges ahead as well as give the rural folk a sense of living.
While noting that the impact of the programme has been very tremendours in the area, he however said that the group is now focusing on the challenges of continuing with the programme due to financial constraints. Abraham said the situation prompted the organisation to solicit for support from both the government and philanthropic organisations.
He noted that the financial constraint was hampering the effort of his organisation at extending the programme to more communities in the area.
Also speaking, the Group’s Internal and External Affairs Co-ordinator, Mr Kingsley Peter said that the group was committed to assisting in empowering the youths in the communities especially in the areas of computer training, industrial making of soap, Vaseline and others, adding that most beneficiaries of the programme are now self-employed.
