Firm Opens Ultra-Modern Service Centre

Sterling Motors Limited, distributors of Ashok Ley land buses and trucks in Nigeria has underscored its intention to take on competitors in its market segment with the opening of its new corporate head office and state-of-the-art service centre at the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway  in Lagos.

A statement  made available to newsmen on Monday in Lagos, stated that the fully automated service centre is built to handle 50 vehicles per day.

Deputy General Manager, Mr Mukund Borgaonkar expressed hope that his compnay’s plan will necessitate setting up new service centres in the six geo-political zones of the country.

He said: “we expect to double our year on year sales figures between 2010 and 2011, with a 100 per cent increase in sales, customers’ demands’ for our company services will be doubled, thus we would be increasing our technical staff to ensure that we maintain our high standards”.

With this marketing projections, the company plans to increase its staff strength from 120 to 600 across Nigeria by the end of 2011 to effectively handle increased customer’s demands.  The ambitious staff programme is a reflection of the company’s confidence in the nation’s economy and it’s believed that the transportation sector of the economy will grow significantly this year.

He disclosed that Ashok Leyland offices and service centres which  are presently under construction in Port Harcourt, Abuja, and Kano are expected to commence operation by the third quarter of this year.

Mr Mukund Borgaonkar explained that his company is presently in talks with financial services providers and some state governments in an effort to contribute positively towards the expansion of various state mass transit schemes. He announced  that Ashok Leyland will introduce five new high capacity buses for state mass transits and private tour operators in Nigeria this year.

Explaining the partnership drive, Managing Director, Mr Jacky Hathiramai, said, “we are committed to providing quality products to Nigerians.  Transportation is vital to national development.  Mass road transportation is evolving and this will further enhance the need for quality trucks for goods and mass transit programmes.  We aim to support this evolution by providing Ashok Leyland’s complete product line-up to Nigerians”.
