NIRA Employment Confab Ends, Today

The on-going international conference on employment organised by the Nigerian Industrial Relations Association (NIRA) which started on the 24th of January will end today.

The conference, which is scheduled to deliberate extensively on emerging trends in employment relations in Africa has its theme as “Emerging Trends in Employment Relations in Africa: National and International Perspective”.

President of NIRA, Professor Dafe Otobo who briefed newsmen on the event, said the conference examined current development in employment and industrial labour relations issues.

“We at regular intervals organises international conference on current developments in employment and industrial relations, which are rotated on continental basis, and co-hosted by a National Association, obviously a member, hence, they are called regional conferences.

“The congress we are co-hosting in the next one week is the 6th African Regional Congress of International Labour and Employment Relations (ILERA). It has attracted delegates from Africa, Australia, Europe, North and South America.

According to him, the international conference is the brain child of the International Labour and Employment Relations Association (ILERA) based in Geneva Switzerland and ware-housed by International Labour Organisation (ILO).

Otobo further disclosed that NIRA used the opportunity of the event to honour individuals who have played significant roles in the development of industrial labour relations issues particularly in Nigeria.
