FG Assures On New Minimum Wage
The Minister of Labour and Productivity, Mr Emeka Wogu, has given an assurance that the Federal Government is committed to payment of the New National Minimum Wage.
This is contained in a statement by the Assistant Director of Press in the ministry, Samuel Olowookere in Abuja, Thursday. It said that the minister was reacting to a publications entitled “FG Can’t Pay Minimum Wage” in one of the national dailies on January 27.”
It stated that the “Federal Government is committed to assenting to and implementing the New National Minimum Wage Bill immediately it is passed by the National Assembly”.
According to the statement, it is pertinent to correct this misinformation as the Federal Government initiated the process of the New National Minimum Wage.
It said President Goodluck Jonathan had shown political will to implement the recommended and approved new minimum wage whose bill was currently before the National Assembly for passage.
“It is relevant to remind members of the public that the government is already paying a minimum ofNI7,000 monthly salary.
“This is through the Restoration of Pay Relativity in the salary of Federal Civil Servants.
“As such, additional N 1,000 will in no way be a challenge to attain the agreed N18,000 minimum wage,” it stated
It called on Nigerian workers to disregard the publication.
