The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has asked its affiliates to pay their outstanding annua1 fees within the next six weeks.

In a letter addressed to the affiliates, AFN said early in the week in Abuja that they would not enjoy all the usual  rights and privileges if they failed to pay on or before February 28.

The AFN affiliates include the Amateur Athletics Association (AAA) in the 36 states and the FCT.

Others are the country’s athletics clubs, higher institutions, military and paramilitary organs. The AFN, in the letter signed by its Assistant Secretary-General, Mrs Rita Akande, and made available to The Tide, said most of its affiliates were owing three years’ accumulated dues.

The annual affiliation fee for each participating member is N30,000 with most affiliates yet to pay for 2009,2010 and 2011.

The AFN said any defaulting member-association would attract three disciplinary measures. “AFN will ensure that the member does not enjoy any subsidy during national competitions; is not invited to any national competition, and will forfeit all other benefits accruable,” it said.

The association also said that no athlete without AFN 2011 licence, would be allowed to participate in any competition organised or supervised by it.

“This is why all athletes’ licences must be obtained this month, and each of them costs N500 for the senior athletes, N450 for the junior athletes and N300 for the youth athletes,” it added.
