Alhaji Dikko Abdullahi, Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), said on Wednesday in Abuja that 8,000 out of its 16,000 workforce were retrained in 2010.

Abdullahi, who disclosed this at the 2011 International Customs Day, said that the officers were trained on computer applications and leaderships in Ontario, Canada and Nigerian Military Police School, Zaria.

He said that the World Customs Organisation (WCO) had chosen: “Knowledge: A Catalyst for Customs Excellence,’’ as the theme for this year’s International Customs Day.

According to the customs chief, the theme is to spur customs authorities worldwide to give prominence to human capacity development.

He explained that this was a sure way of building strong and resilient institutions and to keep them abreast of everyday breakthrough in technology and science.
