Chairman Warns Motorcyclists Against Crime
Commercial motorcyclists in Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State have been warned against using their trade to perpetrate criminal activaties in the area.
The chairman, Motorcyclists Union in the area, Comrade Felix Chima Eke who gave the warning recently in Omoku said that incidence of crime in the area would be reduced if commercial motorcyclists refused to aid criminal elements whom, he said, come in from neighbouring states.
He then called on the Okada riders to reject offers from criminal elements, but rather report suspicious characters to the police to ensure a crime free yuletide season.
Comrade Eke said the warning came necessary because this period is associated with petty crimes, adding that miscreants should not be given the chance to use Omoku as their base.
Besides Comrade Eke advised the motorcycle riders to shun alcohol because experience had shown that most accidents involving motorcyclists were induced by intake of alcohol by the riders.
He also told them to always wear protective helmets and their ID cards for easy identification, in times of mishap, adding that no commercial motorcyclist should exceed the 8.00pm closing time stipulated by the authorities.
In his contribution, secretary of the union, Mr. Samuel Bright Azubuike warned that any commercial motorcyclist caught exceeding the stipulated time would be regarded as one who aids criminals and would be so treated.
He called on oil companies operating in the area like Agip to maintain roads in Omoku to reduce accidents.
