Environmentalist Lauds Amaechi For PH Transformation
A Port Harcourt-based environmentalist, Chief Simeon Ekine has lauded the doggedness of the Rivers State Governor, Rt. (Hon) Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for giving the state capital a facelift by transforming it from a garbage city to a garden city.
Chief Ekine who spoke with The Tide on Friday however, stressed that the ongoing transformation exercise should be given a holistic approach for it to succeed. He regretted that the city which was once a haven of beauty has gradually lost its amiable status.
He recalled that in the past the city used to be full of beautiful flowers, trees and street lights, but these have gone with the wind, while the fine landscape had been brought to ruin by indiscrimate building of structures in reserved spaces thereby defacing the city which had affected the recreational and tourism potentials of the state.
It is against this backdrop that the seasoned environmental scientist called on the authorities of Riv Green and Beautification Parks and Gardens Committee to live up to their duties by ensuring that the Governor Amaechi’s administration succeeds in its efforts to rebrand the state.
