The General Manager of the Rivers State Television (RSTV), Mr. Tonye Ekong was among the 28 old boys honoured by the Old Grammarian Society (OGS) of the CMS Grammer School, Barigha in Lagos State.

Mr. Ekong, who is a member of the 1974 set of the School  was honoured at a ceremony held at the premises of the school last weekend.

Speaking at the ceremony, which attracted old boys who left the school between 52 and 18 years ago, the Chairman of the occasion and old boy of the school, Retired Bishop of Lokoja Diocese, (Anglican Communion) Rt. Rev. George Bako admonished the old boys to rise up and salvage the 151 year old institution from its present poor state of infrastructure.

Rt. Rev. Bako praised the founding Fathers of the school for their foresight and ingenuity in setting up the school which has produced men of substance in all spheres of human endeavour.

The President of the Old Grammarian Scoiety, Mr. Toyin Aba Yomi Akin-Johnson in his speech traced the history of the merit award which is an annual event set aside to honour old boys who have excelled in their areas of calling.

He charged them to strive to donate and make sacrifices to the growth of the institution which has suffered from the claws of government in the provision of infrastructure for good learning.

He praised the effort of Barrister Alakija, an old boy who has offered to build a 250 Bed Hostel for the School.

In the words of the School Song “Up Boys Truest Fame Lies In High Endeavour” Mr. Akin-Johnson urged the Awardees to “play the game, keep the flame burning brightly ever”.
