‘Credible Elections, Panacea To Nigeria’s Dev’

Development Leadership Institute (DLI),  a Niger Delta-based non-governmental organisation has identified free and transparent elections as panacea for peace and sustainable development in Nigeria.

The organisation which said this in a communiqué at the end of its retreat in Calabar the Cross River State capital also said that the situation would guarantee sustainable democracy and good governance.

The institute also stressed the need for all stakeholders in the democratic process in Nigeria to work tirelessly towards the actualisation of free and fair elections next  year.

While blaming the dearth of good and qualitative leadership as a factor militating against the development and realisation of national aspiration the institute stressed the need for determined and concerted efforts towards the enhancement of the quality of leadership in Nigeria, as there is direct relationship between good leadership and national development.

The communiqué which was jointly signed by professor Duro Oni the Chairman Board of Directors of the Institute and Oluwatosin Quadri its executive Director also stressed the neet for a non- governmental mechanism to regulate the activities of non-governmental oganisations in the country.

It however stressed the need for contmouos funding of NGOs by donor agencies to address development gaps  in Nigeria.
