A clergyman and founder of Royal House of Grace Ministries, Apostle Zilly Aggrey, says the Nigerian Aviation industry has recorded tremendous improvement after the outcome of a summit that followed the Sosoliso air crash about five years ago at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa.

Apostle Aggrey in a chat with The Tide Correspondent at the Port Harcourt Airport stressed that after the crash, the people of Nigeria sat together and decided a way forward for the aviation sector which brought about safety and security in the industry.

The man of God who was speaking on the security situation in the country said that it is an issue that borders on the people’s lives and called for a national summit on security.

“Our aviation industry now has improved so much after the last Sosoliso aircrash in the Port Harcourt airport. The people sat together and think of what to do and since then, you can see that there is great improvement in the aviation industry,” adding, anything Nigerians want to do, they can do it well if they really want to”, he declared.

According to him, with a broader participation by all stakeholders, the country will be able to formulate a more serious policy and create a security fund for the nation apart from the normal budget and stressed the need for the Nigeria Police and other security agencies to be adequately paid to avoid the extortion of money from the citizens.

He said that organising a security summit at the state, federal and local government levels and implementation of the outcome will drastically reduce crime and strengthen the security apparatus of the nation.

“When our security agents are made to engage in positive programmes that will prepare their mindset against acts of bribery or corruption, the job will be more attractive” and advocated for a security summit that will be used as a yardstick to sensitise the people of the country at all levels.

The country’s security, according to Apostle Aggrey, is not just something to be left for the Police and other agencies alone but should be the concern of all Nigerians and stakeholders and called on government to do something as a matter of urgency to avoid a repeat of the Abuja bomb blast on October 1.
