The Ijebu-Ode unit command of the FRSC, Ogun,  said recently that it would henceforth prosecute any person found using fake plate number in the town.

Mr Yakubu Anto, the unit commander, said in an interview with The Tide source in Ijebu-Ode that any motorist caught with fake plate number would have his/her car impounded and sanctioned accordingly.

Anto said the command had received an order from the commission’s headquarters to impound and sanction any motorist going about with fake or unregistered plate number.

The unit commander pointed out that plate numbers are for proper identification and could be used in recovering snatched vehicles as well as tracing of owners of vehicles that were involved in accidents.

Anto advised traditional rulers and chiefs that go about with unregistered plate numbers in the town to stop the act, stressing that anyone caught would be sanctioned.

“Most people do not know the implication of using fake plate numbers.

“It is rather funny that people can spend huge sum of money in purchasing cars but find it difficult to buy registered plate numbers.

“It is, however, unfortunate that most of these fake plate numbers are used mostly by royal groups.

“Henceforth, anyone caught with fake number will be arrested, and appropriate sanction will be applied, that is the express order from the headquarters,” he stated.

Anto, however, urged motorists with fake and fancy plate numbers to get the original ones from government or reverse to the normal plate number.
