The Alliance for Democracy (AD) on Thursday, called on the Federal Government to come up with a realistic living wage in the public service to curb corruption in the country.

The National Publicity Secretary, Mr Rafiu Salau, made the appeal in an interview with newsmen in Kaduna.

While commending President Goodluck Jonathan’s fresh initiative against corruption, the party said that contractors and public servants should be accountable over funds given to them for project execution or management.

“A warning is not enough to stop corruption to the level that the president is anticipating. There is need for a strong institution that can instantly alert the public to any attempt to embark on corruption.”

Salau noted that the lack of a reasonable living wage was also contributing to the menace of corruption destroying the country.

“Management of the public budget is given to public servants with little salary and huge social and traditional burden that drain their pockets.

“Nigerians should begin to enjoy value for their money entrusted to public servants and contractors for the development of the country,” he said.
