Cleric Hails Jonathan’s Elevation
Rt. Rev. Aloysius Agbo, the Bishop of Nsukka Anglican Dioceses, has said that the elevation of Goodluck Jonathan to the office of president is an act of God.
Agbo told newsmen in Nsukka, Enugu State, on Saturday that Jonathan should concentrate on electricity supply and the full implementation of the Justice Uwais’ panel recommendations on election reforms to move the country forward.
“Nigerians should pray to God to grant Jonathan wisdom like he did to King Solomon”.
“With wisdom, the president will achieve regular power supply, credible election, and other things that would impact positively on the lives of Nigerians within his short tenure,” he said.
The Bishop urged Jonathan to avoid political sycophants who would want to mislead him to achieve their selfish political ambitions.
“Remember that Nigerians and the entire world will hold you responsible if you fail and not sycophants, so I urge you to obey your conscience which is the voice of God,’’ he added.
Agbo described the death of President Umaru Yar’Adua as unfortunate; stressing that late Yar’Adua would go down in history as the most humble and peace loving politician in the country.
“Yar’Adua’s amnesty to militants in the Niger Delta is a feat no president in the past has achieved.
“Restoring peace in that region has improved political and socio-economic development of the country as well as empowered the youths in that region,” he said.
He said the late president would also be remembered for his bold step to sanitise the electoral process to ensure that people’s votes counted during elections.
Agbo said his sincerity and boldness to admit that the elections that brought him to office were flawed stood him out as a honest, God-fearing and transparent politician.
The Bishop said it was Yar’Adua’s determination to ensure credible election in future that made him to set up the Electoral Reform Committee.
