Assembly Orders LG To Pay N3.4m Compensation
The Kwara House of Assembly has ordered Irepodun Local Government Council to pay N3.4million as compensation to one Mrs R.M Alabi for unlawful demolition of her house.
Sources said that the building located at Ora-Ayoka in Omu Aran, headquarters of the council, had reached roofing stage before the demolition.
Alabi had in November 2009 dragged the council before the House, saying the property which she bought in 1994 was demolished on the orders of the administration.
She urged the Assembly to wade into the matter by compelling the council to refund the money expended on the property.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Lands and Housing, Hon. Illiasu Ibrahim, said the local government claimed ownership of the land without any document to substantiate its claim.
Ibrahim, who was briefing the House on the matter, also said the building was demolished without prior notice to the owner, adding that “ the local government treated the petitioner with utmost insensitivity.”
The Assembly, in its resolution, ordered the payment of the compensation and also advised the council to ensure that all documents relating to landed property were documented.
