A Port Harcourt-based sports enthusiast, Chief Christopher Okonkwo has stressed the need for Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to collaborate with the national team coach, Lars Lagerback and organise some international friendly games for Super Eagles before the commencement of the Word Cup in June.

Okonkwo, who expressed this opinion in an interview with Tidesports recently in Port Harcourt, said that it was imperative that the Eagles were made to play two or three international friendlies to enable the handlers select the best from the pool of players invited to camp.

According to him, the inability of the NFF to organise any international friendly for Eagles up till now is becoming a cause for worry as most Nigerian soccer fans could not assess the present fitness  of the players that will represent the country at the 2010 mundial.

“The trut of the matter is that international friendlies will also help Coach Lagerback to blend the players well and bring cohesion in the team”, he said.

He reaffirmed confidence that Eagles could still spring some surprises when least expected at the World Cup despite their apparent shoddy preparations.

“I foresee a situation where the God of soccer wil help to see the Eagles through to the second round of the championship”, Okonkwo stated.

It would be recalled that the Super Eagles of Nigeria will be playing alongside Argentina, Greece and South Korea in group B of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
