17th NSF: Karate Association Begins Trials, Prepares For Medal Haul

Rivers State Karate Association has concluded arrangements for the commencement of its trials, scheduled to begin on Wednesday in Port Harcourt.

The trials are aimed towards improving the fitness level of the Karatekas and putting them in good stead to win medals for the state at the forthcoming 17th National Sports Festival, ‘Garden City Games 2010.’

Leader Yahcob Kingsley Emelie, the principal coach of the association, disclosed this is an interview with Tidesports on Friday, in Port Harcourt.

Leader Emelie, who is popularly known as “Grand Master” further revealed that the association would go into close camping this month to ensure that the athletes are trained adequately without distraction.

“We are training tirelessly to defend the gold medal we took  last year at the Kaduna Games tagged “KADA 2009.” That is why we are preparing ahead of time, before the state government begins their own camping programme,” programme, Grand Master said.

The principal head coach said that his athletes were poised and determined to clinch all the gold medals available in the karate event, because of their technical ability in the sport.

He used the forum to invite all karate associations to come and witness their trials.
