RSG Begins Registration Of Private Schools
The Rivers State Government has announced the commencement of registration and revalidation of all private schools in the state in line with its new education policy geared towards achieving better education for its citizenry.
Commissioner for Education, Dame Alice Lawrence Nemi, stated this in her office recently, while addressing the executive members of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools.
Dame Nemi instructed that all private schools are by law required to comply and operate uniform educational practices with public schools noting that “pupils and students in pubic and private schools are all members of the same society”.
She explained that private schools have no justification to operate different school calendars in running their schools, adding that the state ministry of education “has absolute right over all schools operating in Rivers State.
The education boss, thus charged proprietors of private schools to operate within the confines of the law establishing private schools.
She advised all proprietors of private schools to present themselves for this crucial exercise as a step towards sanitising the educational system which she said, the Amaechi-led administration “is determined to accomplish”.
Towards this end, she approved the creation of a separate department in the education ministry which shall be in charge of private schools.
Responding, the state president of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, Dr Edna Opara,applauded the renewed commitment of the state ministry of education to address some tee thing challenges facing private schools in the state.
