Odoka Memoriial Tourney Begins Today

The 2nd edition of Odoka Memorial Tournament tagged “Egbema Unity Cup” kicks off today. The opening match will be between the defending champion, Okwuzi FC, and Ebocha FC at the Mgbede Field, Mgbede, Egbema.

A statement signed by Goodluck Ukwe, chairman, publicity committee of the tournament on behalf of the sponsor, Mr Evans Ijeoma, said 13 treams will participate in the football competition.

Mr. Ukwe explained that the 13 participating teams are grouped into four.Group A comprises Okwuzi, Ebocha, Aggah and Obokofia teams, while Group B is made up of Obiakpu, Etekwuru and Mmahu.

Abacheke, Abaezi and Mgbara are in Group C, and Umudike, Opuoma and Mgbede fall into Group D. The draw for the tournament was held on 29th November, ~ at Nkesia Hotels and Resort, Mgbede, Egbema.

Prizes and awards will be given to the winners, first and second runners up, while Most Valuable Player, Best Goal Keeper, Highest Goal Scorer and the Best Behaved team will also get prizes.

The final match will be played on January 1, 2010 at Mgbede field, Egbema.

This year’s tournament will also feature a draft competition among the 16 Egbema communities.

The chairman of Ogba Egbema Ndoni, Hon Chris Okey Ochije will be the special guest of honou, while Rt. Hon Goodluck Opia, speaker, Imo State House of Assembly will be chairman of the opening ceremony. Eze Chadwich Ogor, the Ogbagu I of Mgbede Egbema is the royal father of the day.
