FIFA has approved a second GOAL Project for Nigeria, following the successful completion and commissioning of their first in Abuja.

This second Project, the building of a modern secretariat complex, will cost around $1.4 million, with work expected to commence in the first quarter of 2010.

Part of the funding for the Project is expected to come from FIFA, which will pitch in with $400 000, with the remainder of the financing expected to come from the NFF’s so far unclaimed share of the FIFA Financial Assistance Programme (FAP).

In every four year cycle, each member association affiliated to FIFA receives $1 million in the FAP ($250 000 annually) to be used for development programmes that strengthen football and its administration in the long term.

The funds are strictly monitored by FIFA after disbursement to ensure that they are used for the specified purposes.

Further disbursement is contingent on proper and audited use of previous funding.

Ten percent of the FAP funding is required to be used for the development of women’s football.
