Mrs Amaechi Trains Women In Vocational Skills

Wife of the Rivers State Governor, Dame Judith Amaechi, has initiated vocational skills training and acquisition in electrical maintenance and painting for women in the state.

Other areas include tailoring, plumbing and carpentry. The skills acquisition programme initiated at the instance of a non governmental organisation, the Empowerment Support Initiated (ESI), is aimed at promoting entrepreneurial skills and excellence among women and youths in the state.

The training of women in male dominated craft is aimed at exposing them to self- development as well as promoting gender equality in human capital development and empowerment in the state.

Mrs Amaechi noted that most artisans in these relevant fields currently working in various state government on-going projects are male, hence the need to train women who would complement men’s effort in rebuilding new Rivers State.

Some of the successful applicants who distinguished themselves in the training programme will join the successful graduates of the soap making and detergent manufacturing workshop to pioneer the ESI factory at the learning and entrepreneurial centre.

The Rivers governor’s wife during a meeting with wives of government offificals declared an affirmative action on empowerment and employment for women.

In furtherance of these efforts, the Rivers First Lady has empowered 53 women who are currenlty making a living through commercial transportation, and contributing to the development of a new Rivers State while 60 others have undergone driving training soon.
