National Dev.: NYSC Boss Urges Yar’ Adua To Harness Citizen Talents
President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua-led Federal Government has been advised to harness the collective wisdom, energies, talents, initiatives and skills of the citizenry, especially those of the educated youths, for national development and progress.
The advice was given by Plateau State coordinator, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr. Peter O. Atitola. He spoke at opening and swearing-in ceremony of the 2009 Batch ‘B’ stream I corps members deployed to the state.
He explained that corps members enrollment into the service was to prepare them towards contributing their quota to nation building.
Besides, Atilola explained that the 36-year-old Program has provided bounds among educated youths from different geo-ethnic and socio-cultural backgrounds.
The state NYSC governing Board Chairman Hon. James Bakfur noted that the increase in NYSC population translated to abundance of human resources. According to him, they constituted skill labour, making them veritable assets to the country. He told his audience that NYSC members have in the last 36 years demonstrated that peaceful co-existence was of great importance in the country’s collective destiny as a nation. On security of the members and their property, the chairman emphasized that it remained the Board’s responsibility.
Hon. Barful advised the corps members to exercise discipline, and exhibit high sense of patriotism and maturity. Besides, he urged them to respect the customs, norms and traditions of the people, while warning them against involving themselves in the local politics.
