Bauchi Spends N73m On Information Centres

Bauchi State Government is to spend about N73 million to reactivate its moribund information centres, the acting commissioner for information, Bala Jibrin, has disclosed.

Jibrin told newsmen recently in Bauchi that the amount covered the cost of procuring a state – of –the – art public address system for effective dissemination of imformation about the activities of the government.

He said that the reactivation of the Centres in Ningi, Misau and Azare would cost N34 million while N39 million would be spent on the procurement of a public address system and cinema vans.

The centres, when completed, would be used as data collection and processing centres in addition to serving as venues for town hall meetings and film shows.

In a further show of concern for effective information management in the state, the government is completely renovating three information centres in Azare, Isau and Ningi at the cost of N34 million.

“Upon completion, the centres will serve as data collection and information dissemination centres. The centres will also serve as centres for town hall meetings and film shows,” the commissioner said.

According to him, the government has released N4 million to the ministry for the immediate take-off of the project.

He also said that the government had awarded a N52 million contract for the reconstruction of he NUJ secretariat in Bauchi metropolis.

Jibrin urged public and private media organizations operating in the state to partner with the state government in its determination to facilitate free flow of credible information.
