Activist Tasks Diobu Residents On Clean Environment
And advocate of the house-to-house system of refuse and waste collection, Comrade Prince I. Ihunwo has enjoined residents of Diobu area in Port Harcourt metropolis to be mindful of dirty surroundings in view of the out break of Lassa fever in parts of the country.
Comrade Ihunwo made the call weekend during an environmental sensitisation campaign. According to him the need to keep our surroundings clean becomes more important now to save the citizens from possible attack from the deadly disease which has claimed some lives in parts of the country.
Ihunwo described residents who disposed their waste products and refuse in to the drainage system as very unpatriotic, saying the act blocks the system which cause flooding as a result.
He used the occasion to remind resident of the area that the state government under the able leadership of Governor Amaechi had invested a lot of resources in its bid to keep Port Harcourt and it environment clean, and urged the people to reciprocate the gesture by dumping refuse at only designated points for easy evacuation.
Ihunwo noted that littering of the street with satchet water pages and other plastic or polythene substances deface, the city and urged citizen to use the waste bins placed at strategic points by the Authority of environment.
He praised the efforts of the Rivers State Environmental Sanitation Authority, RSESA at attempts to rid the metropolis of street traders who he said, contribute to the uncleanness of the city.
