Kula Cult War …SSS Nabs 2
Security operatives in Port Harcourt have arrested two leaders of a notorious cult group in Kula community in Akuku-Toru local Government Area of the state.
Those in the net of SSS are Opakiriba Igbikis and Akugbo Dokubo, and sources close to the Rivers State capital said they were arrested for alleged involvement in criminal activities and brutal killings in the oil-rich community.
The two suspects, who had severally evaded arrests by security operatives were accused of unleashing terror, banditry, serial killings in the community including a pregnant woman, Ogechi Alaba who was shot dead last week.
The Tide also gathered that the suspected cultists allegedly engaged in sea piracy and extort money from fishermen in the deep Atlantic.
But luck ran out of them, following disagreement over the sharing of their loots from the hapless fishermen which resulted in a shooting spree that led to the death of some of their members.
The leader of the group, Opakiriba Igbikis reportedly paraded himself as the Chief Security Officer of Kula, a position he allegedly used to intimidate and torture perceived opponents.
A security source told The Tide that all perpetrators of cult activities in the area would be brought to book, as the dragnet of the law was closing in all cultists operating in the area.
The Amanyanabo of Kula Kingdom, King Bordillon Oko, had earlier raised alarm over the growing spate of insecurity in the community, and called for security presence in the area to ensure safety of lives and property.
When contacted, the River State Police Public Relations Officer, Dr Rita Abbey confirmed the arrest, and stated that the suspects would soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
