{"id":92760,"date":"2014-07-18T09:15:06","date_gmt":"2014-07-18T08:15:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=92760"},"modified":"2014-07-18T09:15:06","modified_gmt":"2014-07-18T08:15:06","slug":"students-demand-computer-based-exam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=92760","title":{"rendered":"Students Demand Computer-Based Exam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Vice Chancellor of<br \/>\nRivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Nkpolu, has been advised to initiate a programme that will allow computer based examinations for students at all levels in the university.<br \/>\nThe students, who spoke with The Tide, last Wednesday in Port Harcourt, said that the Institute of Foundation Studies (IFS) computer-based exams are so far the best way of examining students.<br \/>\nThey said that the system was only guaranteeing a fraud-free exam, but has engendered a high level of seriousness among the students.<br \/>\nAccording to Miss Ihuoma Odigwe, no system can for now rival the computer examination method.<br \/>\nShe pointed out immediate result of students\u2019 score as one of the benefit of the system, unlike the manual method takes longer time.<br \/>\nOdigwe, maintained that manual pattern encourages a kind of examination malpractice as some \u201cwealthy\u201d students pay their ways through after each exam.<br \/>\nShe stressed that if the computer system would be introduced from 100-500 levels that most students would graduate with high grades.<br \/>\nAnother student, Nkemdirim Obinnaya, who spoke on the contrary, said that the system may not be beneficial now since the state was yet to adopt total e-learning system.<br \/>\nHe noted that until there was a system that could support computer education or examination method, the process may not succeed, as the issue of epileptic power supply in the state was not been addressed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Vice Chancellor of Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Nkpolu, has been advised to initiate a programme that will allow computer based examinations for students at all levels in the university.
