The Consumer Protection Council (CPC) has canvassed for compensation of subscribers
\nof Digital Satellite Television (DSTV) due to loss of transmission signals
\nusually experienced during adverse weather conditions.<\/p>\n
The council also advised the
\nowners, Multichoice Nigeria Limited, to introduce pay-as-you-go subscription
\nfor its subscribers.<\/p>\n
This is contained in a
\nstatement issued by Mr Abiodun Obimuyiwa, the Deputy Director of Media and
\nPublicity, CPC, in Abuja on Wednesday<\/p>\n
It said time was rife for the
\nintroduction of the pay-as-you-go subscription in the interest of millions of
\nsubscribers of the satellite television.<\/p>\n
The statement sought to know
\nthe reason why this form of subscription could not be introduced in Nigeria as
\nhad been done in other foreign climes.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe pay-as-you-go
\nsubscription would allow consumers to get value for their money, give them
\nchoice as well as enable them to control their consumption,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n
The statement quoted
\nMultichoice as saying it did not have the platforms to implement pay-as-you-go
\nsystem of payment but promised to look into it.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn the issue of compensation
\nfor down-times for signals, Multichoice explained that loss of signals during
