Tragedy was averted recently in
\nAminigboko community of Emughan, in the Abua\/Odual Local Government Area of
\nRivers State as a 15 foot python which was terrorising the community was killed
\nby vigilant fishermen.<\/p>\n
According to an elder from the community, Mr. Gospel Dema,
\nchildren who took advantage of the flood took time to go for a swim only to be
\ndriven away by the python.<\/p>\n
He said the children reported the development which led to it
\nbeing ambushed by some fishermen.<\/p>\n
One of the fishermen who spoke to our correspondent, Mr.
\nEmmanuel Gibson said that on the day the reptile was killed, he was on his way
\nto gather his nets when all of a sudden; the snake appeared and moved towards
\nhis direction.<\/p>\n
Continuing, Mr. Gibson said he swam ashore and called on his
\nfellow fishermen who were around even as the snake also swam ashore and took a
\nposition and was ready to attack.<\/p>\n
He further explained that as soon as two of his colleagues
\narrived, they all braved it and moved towards the fierce looking python.<\/p>\n
He said when it became obvious that they were all over it,
\nthe snake sprang to attack them and that it took several deep matchet cuts to
\nkill it.<\/p>\n
Speaking on the incident, the community development committee
\nchairman of Aminigboko, Mr. Chukwudi Georgewill said that it was strange for a
\npython to be attacking people the way it did.<\/p>\n
He thanked the bravery of the trio of Emmanuel Gibson, Israel
\nYoung and Aselemi Wagbara for bringing to an end the terror of the python to
\nthe community.<\/p>\n
It could be recalled that early in the flood, the community
\nlost one Odighioye Monday Oyepho who drowned as he accompanied others for a
