The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) said last Monday that it
\nwould continue to train its officers and men to meet the challenges of
\ncontemporary information management.<\/p>\n
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Alhaji Abdullahi
\nDikko-Inde, made the remark at a workshop for public relations officers of the
\nservice in Lagos.<\/p>\n
Dikko-Inde told the officers that more of such training
\nwould be organised for them before the end of the year.<\/p>\n
The customs boss, who was represented by Mr Victor Gbemudu,
\nthe Zonal Coordinator for Zone \u201cA\u201d Command, said that similar training had been
\nheld for officers in other parts of the country.<\/p>\n
Dikko-Inde said: \u201cThe essence of this workshop cannot be
\nover-emphasised. \u201cThis workshop is ongoing and it will continue to go on. I was
\nmade to understand that in June 2011, you had one in Calabar on \u201cthe effective
\nPRO for Nigerian Custom Service.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIn March, 2012 you had another one in Owerri on \u201cfostering
\neffective Customs and Media Relations\u201d, and now in September, we have one being
\norganised by NAN on \u201cskill for effective public relations information and press
\nmanagement to power transformation agenda\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe essence of this workshop is one of the cardinal points
\nof our controller-general, which centres on capacity building.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dikko-Inde lauded NAN for its quick dissemination of news
\nand expressed the hope that the officers would reflect what they had learnt on
\ntheir jobs.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of NAN, Mrs
\nOluremi Oyo, said that the training was to assist the officers in disseminating
\ninformation in a concise, authoritative and creative manner.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe hope that this
\nexercise that the customs officers are going through will help the system. The
\nNews Agency of Nigeria offers this ancillary service to all and sundry in the
\nhope that, we will be contributing to the overall agenda of making Nigeria a better
\nplace, a place where services are delivered as at when due.\u201d<\/p>\n
In his remark, Mr Alli Hakeem, the Managing Editor, NAN
\nMultimedia Services, urged the officers to be proactive in the management of
\ninformation.<\/p>\n
Hakeem said the prevailing security situation in the country
\nrequired public relations officers in government service to be thorough in the
\ndissemination of information.<\/p>\n
He spoke on: \u201cTowards effective information management in
\npublic relations: Overcoming challenges and exploring opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n
The theme of the four-day workshop is: \u201cSkills for effective
\npublic relations, information and press management to power the transformation
