{"id":50159,"date":"2012-08-24T03:58:48","date_gmt":"2012-08-24T07:58:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=50159"},"modified":"2012-08-24T03:58:48","modified_gmt":"2012-08-24T07:58:48","slug":"erosion-projects-bsha-seeks-mobilisation-fees-for-contractors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=50159","title":{"rendered":"Erosion Projects: BSHA Seeks Mobilisation Fees For Contractors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Benue House of Assembly\u2019s Standing Committee on Water<br \/>\nand Environment has urged the state government to pay mobilisation fees to<br \/>\nerosion project contractors in Gboko Local Government Area (LGA).<\/p>\n<p>The committee\u2019s Chairman, Mr Godwin Akaan, made the appeal<br \/>\non Wednesday during the committee\u2019s oversight functions to projects in the<br \/>\nGboko and Tarka LGAs.<\/p>\n<p>He said the payment would help to ease ecological problems<br \/>\nin the area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGovernment\u2019s inability to pay mobilisation fees to the<br \/>\ncontractors has made the residents in Gboko to face erosion challenges,\u2019\u2019 the<br \/>\nlegislator said.<\/p>\n<p>He, therefore, urged the state government to pay up the fees<br \/>\nto facilitate an early take-off of the projects.<\/p>\n<p>Akaan also called on the General Manager, Benue State<br \/>\nSanitation and Environmental Agency, Mr Ediga Akpa, to immediately deploy men<br \/>\nto clean up Gboko town.<\/p>\n<p>He blamed the water shortage in Tarka on poor access roads<br \/>\nlinking Wannune to the Earth Dam, situated about five kilometres out of the<br \/>\ntown.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Ministry of Works and Housing has to collaborate with<br \/>\nthe Ministry of Water Resources to provide good water to the residents of Tarka<br \/>\nLGA,\u2019\u2019 Akaan said.<\/p>\n<p>The chairman advised the contractor handling the Wannune<br \/>\nearth dam to expedite work on the project to enable the people have potable<br \/>\nwater.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Friday Adodo, manager of A.G.B Nigeria Ltd., told the<br \/>\nNews Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the site, that the Ministry of Water Resources<br \/>\nwas responsible for the delay in completing the work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe ministry was not up to date with payments. Out of N136<br \/>\nmillion that was the total contract sum, the ministry has so far paid N129<br \/>\nmillion, leaving the balance of N7 million unpaid,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n<p>Adodo explained that the entire contract would be given an<br \/>\nupward review to cover extra costs, saying the review would cost an additional<br \/>\nN15 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is owing to the delay in the payment of the total<br \/>\ncontract sum which has resulted to delays in contract execution,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Benue House of Assembly\u2019s Standing Committee on Water and Environment has urged the state government to pay mobilisation fees to erosion project contractors in Gboko Local Government Area (LGA).
