The President, National Association of Telecommunications
\nSubscribers (NATCOMS), Chief Deolu Ogunbanjo, has cautioned subscribers to be
\nwary of the numerous tariff packages being offered by service providers.<\/p>\n
In an interview with the newsmen on Thursday in Lagos,
\nOgunbanjo urged subscribers to understand the terms and conditions before
\nopting for any tariff plan.<\/p>\n
He said that the different tariff packages being rolled out
\nby the telecommunications operators were normal occurrences in any competitive
\nindustry.<\/p>\n
The NATCOMS president explained that the introduction of numerous
\ntariff packages was a welcome development as long as such offers were made with
\na lot of freebies attached to them.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn competition, you need to review your tariff on a regular
\nbasis so as to attract your subscribers to keep using your network.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne should exercise a lot of caution in analysing these
\nfreebies, because some of the freebies are sometimes traps for you to get in
\nand patronise them, while they get most of the benefits\u2019\u2019, he said<\/p>\n
Ogunbanjo said the regular tariff reviews by the operators should
\ndeliver lower rates to subscribers, otherwise subscribers should not subscribe
\nto them.<\/p>\n
He noted that the service providers were getting more
\nproactive than before as competition was getting stiffer.<\/p>\n
Ogunbanjo said that though subscribers derived some benefits
\nfrom the numerous tariffs, most of the benefits were in favour of the service
\nprovider.<\/p>\n
He said that the different tariffs in the country\u2019s
\ntelecommunications industry were preparatory to the Mobile Number Portability
