The Bayelsa State Government, has announced its readiness to
\nrecruit about 300 Information and Communication Technology(ICT) and science
\nteachers to man its primary and secondary schools.<\/p>\n
The Bayelsa Governor, Hon Seriake Dickson announced this at
\na meeting with education\u00a0 stakeholders at
\nGovernment House, Yenagoa, on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Dickson said the aim is to enable the students appreciate
\nthe importance of ICT and modern teaching technique.<\/p>\n
He explained that the initiative, will transfuse new blood
\ninto the stream of education and teaching in the state.<\/p>\n
The Bayelsa chief excutive also said that plans are in top
\ngears to organise a one-week intensive training and retraining\u00a0 for headmasters and teachers in the state.<\/p>\n
He stressed that only those who performed exellently in the
\nexercise would be allowed to remain in the school syetem.<\/p>\n
According to him, teachers would be regularly exposed to the
\nbasic rudiments and modern\u00a0 ways of
\nteaching.<\/p>\n
The Tide was informed that up to 5,119 teachers and 541
\nheadmasters from the public schools in the state will participate in the
\nexercise, adding that,\u00a0 they will be
\ntested on the skills acquired at the end of the day.<\/p>\n
The Tide further learnt that the measure is to effect
\ndrastic changes in the education sector in support to its compulsory and free
\neducation policy.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, he ordered the immediate down sizing of the
\nnon-academic staff in the primary school, in order to enable the government to
\nmoblise funds to other important needs.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Bayelsa state commissioner for Education, Mr
\nSalo Adikumo, noted that the meeting was to enable stakeholders to brainstorm
\nand chart the way forward.<\/p>\n
Others who spoke at the gathering, pleaded with the state
\ngovernment not to allow politicians and other heavy weights in the state to use
\nthe exercise to witch-hunt their suspected enemies, while lauding the gorvernor
