{"id":355885,"date":"2026-05-29T00:10:10","date_gmt":"2026-05-28T23:10:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=355885"},"modified":"2026-05-28T16:19:44","modified_gmt":"2026-05-28T15:19:44","slug":"seagles-coach-demands-more-from-azeez","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=355885","title":{"rendered":"S&#8217;Eagles Coach Demands More From Azeez"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">Super Eagles coach \u00c9ric Chelle has expressed some dissatisfaction with debutant Femi Azeez\u2019s overall contribution despite the Millwall winger\u2019s match-winning brace in Nigeria\u2019s 2-0 victory over Zimbabwe in the opening game of the Unity Cup in London on Tuesday, <em>Tidesports source\u00a0<\/em>reports.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>Azeez, one of several fresh faces invited for the four-nation tournament, was handed a starting role straight away and repaid the faith with two goals to seal the win for the Super Eagles at The Valley.<\/p>\n<p>He scored with a powerful low strike in the sixth minute before calmly tapping home a Terem Moffi layoff in the second half, making him the undisputed standout performer by most assessments.<\/p>\n<p>However, Chelle was far from satisfied.<\/p>\n<p>The Franco-Malian tactician acknowledged the goals but was sharply critical of the 24-year-old\u2019s failure to execute his tactical instructions during the 91 minutes he spent on the pitch before being replaced by Aderemi Adeoye.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can ask Azeez directly. The first objective was for him to run today; this is what I asked of them,\u201d Chelle said. \u201cThe second instruction was to press high, but during the 90 minutes, they did not.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have to analyse the performance, particularly Azeez\u2019s. I know he scored two goals, so congratulations to him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But he lost possession far too often, technically, so I\u2019m not happy. He won the ball back at times, but other times he didn\u2019t, so I\u2019m not happy. But for his debut, I can say congratulations to him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked whether Azeez had done enough to earn a spot in the squad for Nigeria\u2019s upcoming friendlies against Poland and Portugal in June, Chelle was deliberately vague.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I want him for the games against Portugal and Poland, I\u2019ll say yes.
