Former Super Eagles<\/a>\u2019 captain and head coach, Sunday Oliseh, has given a knock on the\u00a0Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL<\/a>), saying the nation\u2019s best domestic players are not in the league owing to \u2018poor remuneration.\u2019<\/div>\n

\u201cNigeria\u2019s best domestic players are not in the league because they keep moving abroad in search of better pay,\u201d he said. According to him,\u00a0poor payment<\/a>\u00a0of players in the NPFL has led to exodus of country\u2019s best talents.<\/p>\n

Oliseh spoke against the backdrop of another calls for the inclusion of home-based players in the Super Eagles\u2019 forthcoming roster ahead of the 2026\u00a0Unity Cup in London.<\/a><\/p>\n

The former Juventus of Italy,\u00a0Borussia Dortmund<\/a>\u00a0of Germany and Ajax of Netherlands midfielder stressed that better treatment is vital to curbing the rapid migration of home-based talents.<\/p>\n

\u201cFootball is a business,\u201d Oliseh told Sports247. \u201cWhen we were playing, there was never one month that they owed us. It might be small, but we were paid on time. If you want players to stay in Nigeria, ensure the league is conducive and okay,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, for Super Eagles player,\u00a0Obinna Nsofor<\/a>\u00a0is full of tears, as he laments decay in the nation\u2019s football.<\/p>\n

Nsofor, known for his accurate bomb-of-a-shot said: \u201cIf Nigeria was truly good enough, we would have qualified for the\u00a02026 FIFA World Cup<\/a>. Football is not about big names or social media hype, but about results on the pitch. DR Congo beat us, qualified and proved they deserved to be there more than Nigeria,\u201d he said on Brila FM.<\/p>\n

He continues: \u201cThe fact is that it has been a very long time since Nigeria, as a country, had the opportunity to host any major tournament. The last one we hosted was in 2000.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe all know the situation we have in Nigeria as a country in terms of infrastructure. The standard of the stadiums are not at the level required to host a major CAF tournament, and that\u2019s the truth.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven the national team of Nigeria finds it difficult to play matches in the country.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nsofor added: \u201cIn terms of going to other states for Super Eagles games, we have only one stadium in Nigeria that is up to the standard required to host qualifying matches.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s quite unfortunate and sad. In Nigeria, there is no long-term plan because we only plan for the present. We don\u2019t have a maintenance culture,\u201d Nsofor stated.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
